A CENTURY OF SERVING OTHERS
For over a century of serving others, Hood Temple AME Zion Church in Richmond, Virginia remains fully committed in our mission of fullfilling Jesus' mandate, "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I commanded you: and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen." (Matthew 28:19-20) We invite you to "come as you are" and let the Holy Spirit liberate and reconcile you through the grace and love of our Lord Jesus Christ!
The Jackson Ward Historic District is a National Historic Landmark in the City of Richmond. This formal recognition of its national significance stems from the importance of this district in African American history starting in the 19th century. African American churches including Hood Temple AME Zion Church were central to the life of Jackson Ward then and continues to be that heartbeat today.

Pastor Meekins Briefly Reflects On A Half Century of Preaching and Teaching The Word of God
"On Sunday, November 19, 2023, I celebrated 50 years in the preaching ministry. And where better thanks be to God, and to my Bishop, the Right Reverend W. Darin Moore, to be able to celebrate in the same pulpit where I preached my initial sermon! I am also blessed to serve as Pastor of my home church. I preached my initial sermon on November 18, 1973. My text was Matthew 25:31-46, my subject: The Separation of the Sheep from the Goats! Truly my soul look back and say THANK YOU JESUS! My preaching ministry over the last half century has afforded me through serving as an Air Force Chaplain to preach around the world. My pastoral ministry of 45 years will eventually come to a close. But as my father in the ministry, the late Dr. John Oliver Hart, use to say, "I'm going to preach until my day is done!" To God be the glory!!!"
